In this video tutorial, we will show you step-by-step how to use your SilkBalance Water Conditioning Kit.
How to Use SilkBalance Video Transcript
Your kit will include:
- SpaGuard Enhanced Shock
- pH/Alkalinity Up
- pH/Alkalinity Down
- Silver Ion Sanitizer Cartridge
- 5-Way Test Strips
First, find the black drain caps at the bottom of the spa’s exterior and check that they are tightly screwed on. Remove the gray filter cap and filter. Fill your hot tub with water through the standpipe indicated by the gray cap, making sure to push the hose all the way to the bottom. Please note that when filling your spa, you need to make sure the water level is high enough cover the jets, but not high enough to rise the headrest as marked in the video.
After you have filled your hot tub, remove the hose from the standpipe. Then, slide the Silver Ion Cartridge over the standpipe. Replace the filter and cap. Power on your spa by either flipping the breakers or by plugging it in. Cover the spa, and let it heat up. Please note that 110V spas will heat about 3°F an hour, whereas 220V spa will heat up to 8°F an hour. Run the jets for about 15 minutes, rotating the diverter valve to open the jets. While the jets are running, test and balance your water’s pH and alkalinity, following the instructions on the bottles. Remember that all chemicals should be added to the filter compartment while the jets are running. With the jets running, add 1-1/2 tbsp Enhanced Shock to the filter compartment. After adding any chemicals, remember to leave the cover open for 15-20 minutes with the jets running. This will prolong the life of your spa cover.
Turn the jets off and add the recommended amount of SilkBalance in to the filter compartment. Wait at least 30 minutes before turning the jets back on.
For weekly maintenance: Repeat adding Enhanced Shock 2x weekly and SilkBalance 1x weekly. If you must add both chemicals to the spa on the same day, wait at least 10 minutes after adding Enhanced Shock before adding SilkBalance.
Pro tip: If your water looks discolored or even cloudy, add 1 capful (2 tbsp) of Enhanced Shock every 12-14 hours until the water color dissipates or the spa stops smelling.
